Verified from official government sources
Homeowners need no county permit to remove a residential tree documented as dangerous by a certified arborist (FS 163.045). On development sites, the Lake County LDR requires tree-protection review, and heritage trees (40-inch+ trunk) generally cannot be removed without approval and 100% replacement.
Lake County LDR Β§ 9.02.10.B(1), F(2); Β§ 9.02.06.B
Pursuant to LDR Section 9.02.10.B(1), trees with a 40-inch or greater trunk are considered heritage trees; removal of a heritage tree is prohibited under LDR Section 9.02.10.F(2), unless it poses a danger to persons or property.
