Protected Tree Species

Martin County's Land Development Regulations protect native hardwood trees eight inches DBH or larger, and pine or other native softwoods eight inches or larger on a site's perimeter, from removal without approval. LDR Sec. 4.666 requires barricades around each protected tree during construction and caps removal so that at least ten percent of a site's protected trees survive development.

Parkway Planting

New development within Martin County's Planned Mixed-Use Village (PMUV) district, the 3,411-acre form-based code area west of Florida's Turnpike and north of S.W. Martin Highway, must plant street trees along every street. Land Development Regulations Sec. 11.5.5 requires shade trees with at least a 3-inch caliper at planting, spaced and placed according to each Street Type's standards.
