Transient Occupancy Tax

Mendocino County charges a combined 10 percent transient occupancy tax on rent paid at hotels, motels, RV parks, campgrounds and any other lodging establishment renting to stays of 30 days or less. Operators collect the tax at time of rent and must hold a Registration Certificate from the Tax Administrator before taking guests.

For the privilege of occupancy in any lodging establishment, each transient is subject to and shall pay a tax in the amount of eight percent (8%) of the rent charged by the operator. Said tax constitutes a debt owed by the transient to the County, which is extinguished only by payment to the operator or to the County.
