Anchorage enforces a juvenile curfew under AMC 8.30. Minors under 18 may not be in public places from 1:00 AM to 5:00 AM Sunday through Thursday and from 3:00 AM to 5:00 AM Friday and Saturday.
AMC 8.30.010 prohibits any person under 18 from loitering or remaining in a public place, establishment, or motor vehicle during curfew hours unless accompanied by a parent, guardian, or adult delegated in writing. Curfew hours are 1:00 AM to 5:00 AM on weekdays and 3:00 AM to 5:00 AM on weekends. Exceptions include minors traveling to or from work, a school or church event, responding to an emergency, or exercising First Amendment rights. Businesses that knowingly allow minors to remain during curfew hours are also subject to citation under AMC 8.30.030. APD officers issue citations to the minor and notify a parent; a separate parental-responsibility citation may be issued when a parent knowingly permits the violation. Fines start at 50 dollars for a first offense and escalate with prior offenses. APD operates curfew sweeps downtown and in Midtown on summer weekends.
