Casper, WY Curfew Laws: Juvenile Curfew (2026)

Casper's curfew ordinance, codified at Chapter 9.40, Article I of the Municipal Code, makes it unlawful for any person under eighteen to loiter, walk, run or ride on any street, sidewalk, alley, vacant lot, park, playground, or in any place of amusement or eating place, public or private, without the owner's or occupant's consent, during set hours: twelve a.m. to six a.m. on Friday night through Sunday morning, and eleven p.m. to six a.m. on Sunday night through Thursday night, unless the minor is with a parent or legal guardian (Section 9.40.030).

Section 9.40.020 separately makes it unlawful for a parent or legal guardian to knowingly permit, including through insufficient control, a minor's curfew violation. Section 9.40.031 lists defenses: the minor was not loitering; was in a vehicle with a parent or in interstate travel; was going to or from work, school, or a religious, first-amendment, or parent-supervised activity; was returning directly from a parent-sanctioned event; was married or emancipated; or faced a life- or property-threatening emergency. Section 9.40.032 requires a police officer to ask the apparent offender's age and reason for being out before issuing a citation or arrest, and bars enforcement unless the officer reasonably believes an offense occurred and no Section 9.40.031 defense applies.

Section 9.40.040 sets the penalty: a juvenile's violation is a criminal offense punishable by a fine of not more than seven hundred fifty dollars and/or probation, and an adult's violation of the parental-supervision provision carries the same $750 maximum fine.
