Town of Babylon parks are closed from sunset to sunrise except for permitted events, under Town Code Chapter 144 (Parks and Recreation). Fishing piers, boat ramps, and certain beaches along Great South Bay have separate posted hours.
Babylon Town Code Chapter 144 (Parks and Recreation) governs access to all Town-owned parks, beaches, marinas, and recreation facilities, including Tanner Park, Venetian Shores, Cedar Beach, Overlook Beach, and Gilgo Beach. Standard park hours are sunrise to sunset unless otherwise posted. Entry outside posted hours is prohibited except for persons holding a written permit issued by the Commissioner of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs for organized events, fishing tournaments, or special uses. Specific facilities (boat ramps, fishing piers, dog runs) may have different hours posted at the entrance. Babylon Town Parks Rangers and Suffolk County Police enforce Chapter 144. Note that Robert Moses State Park and Jones Beach State Park (operated by NYS OPRHP, not the Town) have their own curfew rules. Alcohol is generally prohibited in Town parks except at permitted events under Chapter 144.
First offense: fine up to $250. Repeat offenses: fines up to $500 and potential arrest for trespass under NY Penal Law Β§140.05. After-hours vehicle impoundment possible at beach lots.
