Huntington, NY Curfew Laws: Park Curfew (2026)

Section 159-25 of the Recreational Facilities chapter sets the town-wide default: all parks, beaches and special park facilities are closed to the public from sunset to sunrise except where specifically posted otherwise, and every activity in those areas is restricted during the closed hours, though the Director of Parks and Recreation may permit group activities during closure by issuing a permit. The Director also has standing authority to adjust the ordinary opening and closing hours of any park or beach facility as conditions require, and under Subsection B may declare any park, beach or facility (or part of one) closed to the public or closed to certain uses at any time, temporarily or on a recurring schedule, whenever necessary to maintain order or protect the health, safety and welfare of park users or wildlife.

Subsection C then criminalizes the conduct: it is unlawful to park, loiter, use, occupy or congregate at a park or beach while it is closed to the public unless the person holds a permit from the Director, and even a permit holder may not use the space outside the hours the permit specifies. The Town's General Services and Parks and Recreation Departments rely on this section to clear beaches and playgrounds overnight and to keep specific facilities, such as an observation deck limited to set daytime hours, closed outside their posted windows.
