Bloomfield, NJ Curfew Laws: Park Curfew (2026)

Section A680-12(A) sets the hours for all Committee premises: open daily from sunrise until one hour after sundown. The Committee or its duly designated representative can extend the closing hours, by resolution or other appropriate action, on the days and for the periods it deems in the public interest. Subsection B adds a permit path: the Committee or its designated representative can grant permits to individuals or groups for use of park premises, facilities or sections of them during hours when they are otherwise closed to the public.

Lion Gate Park has its own subsection. It opens daily from sunrise until one hour after sundown, the same as every other park, but any athletic lighting used on the Lion Gate Park athletic field or fields must be off no later than 8:30 p.m. Without a scheduled, permitted event, athletic lighting will not be scheduled or used at all, regardless of the time of day. Ord. No. 23-54, adopted 11-13-2023, added that subsection.

The closing hour is backed by a presence rule. Section A680-11 says no unauthorized person shall loiter in or be present on Committee premises except during the hours the premises are open to the public, and organized groups can be present during other hours only with the prior written permission of the Committee. Vehicles have a parallel limit in § A680-36: no motor vehicle can be parked overnight on park premises or parking lots under Committee jurisdiction from 10:00 p.m. until sunrise, and no motor vehicle is permitted on park premises or lots except during the hours the parks are open.

Committee premises means any park, parkway, playground or other premises under the control of the Bloomfield Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Advisory Committee. This page covers park hours only, and it applies to Township parks in Bloomfield, Essex County.
