Gretna, LA Curfew Laws: Park Curfew (2026)

Gretna's Article II park rules, Chapter 42, set the operating hours for every recreation area the city owns or uses: parks, playgrounds, green space, levees, bike paths, walking paths and recreation centers, as defined in Sec. 42-25. Sec. 42-29 opens every recreation area to the public every day of the year except for unusual and unforeseen emergencies, and lets the city post opening and closing hours specific to individual parks and facilities. The default closing rule, though, is fixed in the same section: all city parks and facilities shall close at dusk, and the only carve-out is for a park or facility that has proper lighting and is hosting an approved organized recreational activity. Once dusk arrives and no lighted, approved activity is under way, no person shall be on the premises of any park outside that permitted window.

Enforcement runs through Sec. 42-26, which gives the director of recreation, or a designee, authority to evict anyone from a city park or recreation facility for violating any provision of Chapter 42, including the dusk closing rule. Sec. 42-28 adds a separate consequence for anyone convicted of violating a municipal, state, or federal law in connection with an act on city park property: the director of parks and recreation can bar that person from all city parks and facilities at the director's discretion. Beyond eviction and the discretionary ban, a citation for being in a park after its posted or default dusk closing falls under the citywide general penalty, Sec. 1-8, punishable by a fine of up to $500.00, with notice given under Sec. 2-1.
