Gretna, LA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Sec. 21 and last amended by Ordinance No. 4564 in 2014, is the general 'areas where prohibited' section of Gretna's parking article. It bars a driver from standing or parking, except when necessary to avoid a traffic conflict or when directed otherwise by a police officer or a traffic control device, in front of or within three feet of the curb return of any driveway, wheelchair ramp or bicycle ramp, public or private. The section then imposes a stiffer setback for larger vehicles: trucks, buses or similar vehicles cannot park within 20 feet of those same driveways, wheelchair ramps or bicycle ramps, a distance more than six times the three-foot rule that applies to ordinary passenger cars.

The second numbered clause of the section reaches a different situation entirely: no one may park on a parade route within two hours of the start of any parade, a rule with real teeth in a city that hosts the Gretna Heritage Festival and Mardi Gras parades under Chapter 26. S. 32:143 in a note following this section, but the operative local rule is the Code text itself. Because the driveway setback is measured from the curb return rather than the property line, the restriction follows the curve of the driveway apron, not a straight line drawn from the house.
