Lakeville, MN Curfew Laws: Park Curfew (2026)

Lakeville City Code § 7-1-2 sets a citywide park curfew: it is unlawful for any person to be in a city park after 10:00 p.m. and before 6:00 a.m. The section defines only three exceptions. First, camping is allowed overnight in an area the city has specifically designated for that purpose, so the blanket curfew does not reach a permitted campground within a park. Second, anyone participating in an activity for which the city has granted a permit is exempt, meaning a scheduled evening event or similarly permitted gathering does not by itself become a curfew violation.

Third, the ordinance singles out Aronson Park for an extended schedule, allowing it to stay open to the public from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., an hour later than the citywide closing time. Enforcement of the curfew runs alongside the park rules the park and recreation director posts under Lakeville City Code § 7-1-4-6: a police officer or community service officer who finds someone violating the curfew or another posted park rule can order the person to leave, and failing to leave after that order is itself a misdemeanor, separate from the underlying curfew violation.

The curfew section was adopted by Ordinance 491 in 1993, and the Aronson Park carve-out was added the following year by Ordinance 524. Because the exceptions are narrowly drawn to camping, permitted activities and one named park, being in any other Lakeville park after 10:00 p.m. without a permit is a violation even if the person is not otherwise causing a disturbance.
