Lower Merion, PA Curfew Laws: Park Curfew (2026)

Section 109-9, part of Chapter 109, Parks and Playgrounds, sets a single, Township-wide default: no person may be in a park or playground except between sunrise and sunset, local time. The default bends only two ways. Chapter A168, the Park Rules and Regulations adopted separately by the Board of Commissioners, can set a different schedule for specific parks, and the Township Manager or a designated appointee may establish different hours during which a particular park or playground is kept open for an event the Township operates or endorses.

Outside those two carve-outs, the section makes it unlawful for anyone other than authorized Township personnel to occupy or be present in a park during hours it is not open to the public. The Township Manager also holds standing authority under the same section to close all or part of a park to the public at any time, whether temporarily for a single occasion or on a regular, stated schedule. This closure power sits alongside § 109-2, which places general park supervision under the Township Manager acting through the Director of Parks and Recreation, and § 109-4, which assigns enforcement of the whole chapter to the Township Manager's designee working with the Lower Merion Police Department.

Because § 109-9 defines 'park' by reference to the long list in § 109-1, covering everything from neighborhood tot-lots to Flat Rock Park and Schuylkill River trail frontage, the sunrise-to-sunset rule reaches essentially every piece of Township-owned recreation land, not just a handful of named sites.
