City of Maricopa parks operate from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily under MCC 12.10.010. Parks are effectively closed (curfew) from 11:00 p.m. to sunrise, and the director or designee may close any park, or part of one, at any time to protect park property or for private functions, public health, safety, or welfare. A separate juvenile curfew under MCC 9.50.010 also applies citywide.
Maricopa codifies park hours in MCC 12.10.010 (Hours of operation): daily park hours are from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., which means city parks are closed to the public from 11:00 p.m. to sunrise. The code authorizes the director or designee to close any park or portion of a park at any time for the protection of park property or for private functions, or for the public health, safety, or welfare of potential park users. These rules were adopted as part of the city's park rules and regulations (originally established for Pacana Park and extended to all city parks). Being in a city park during closed hours can result in a citation for trespass or violation of the park regulations. Separately, Maricopa enforces a juvenile curfew under MCC 9.50.010: it is unlawful for a minor under 16 to be away from their residence in the city between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., and for a minor 16 or 17 between 12:00 a.m. (midnight) and 5:00 a.m., with defenses such as being accompanied by a parent or guardian or engaged in employment. Together these provisions mean both park-specific hours and the citywide juvenile curfew can apply at night.
Entering or remaining in a city park between 11:00 p.m. and sunrise, or during a director-ordered closure, can result in a citation under the park regulations (MCC 12.10). Minors out past curfew hours, and parents who knowingly permit it, can be cited under MCC 9.50.010 subject to the listed defenses.
