West Valley City, UT Curfew Laws: Park Curfew (2026)

West Valley City Municipal Code § 4-1-126, part of Chapter 4-1 (Parks and Playgrounds), closes "all public parks within the corporate limits of the City...to any public use between the hours of 11:00 P.M. and 6:00 A.M., unless prior approval is properly obtained from an authority of the City." The section does not name which office issues that approval, so anyone planning an after-hours use, an early practice, a sunrise event, or maintenance work has to get sign-off from City staff before entering rather than relying on posted signage alone.

The closing hour reinforces several other Chapter 4-1 prohibitions that already make overnight park use unlawful even before 11:00 p.m. arrives. Section 4-1-109 separately bans camping or lodging in any park or playground, Section 4-1-110 bans kindling a fire for any purpose, and Section 4-1-127 bans possessing or consuming alcohol in any City park, so a person found in a closed park after hours is frequently also violating a companion section.

Enforcement runs through Section 4-1-101, "Compliance with Chapter," which makes it "unlawful for any person to do or suffer or permit to be done any of the acts specified in this Chapter in any public park or playground in the City," and states that "any violations of this Chapter shall be a class 'B' misdemeanor for each day of noncompliance." Because Section 4-1-126 carries no separate penalty clause of its own, the way the smoking prohibition in Section 4-1-128 does, a closing-hours violation is charged under this general Chapter 4-1 penalty, and each night a person remains in a closed park can count as a separate day of noncompliance.
