Islip, NY Environmental Rules: Boat Dock Permits (2026)

Code of the Town of Islip § 37-29(A) makes it unlawful to anchor, moor, dock, tie or otherwise confine a boat at a Town marina without a valid permit, unless an existing Town of Islip contract already grants access to the facility; a separate ramp permit is required under § 37-29(C) to use a Town boat launching ramp. Section 37-32 sets the application process: applicants supply the New York State registration number, boat name, manufacturer, overall length and beam, plus a valid original boat registration and two current proofs of residency, all matching the boat owner's name and address.

Seasonal marina permits under § 37-32(A)(2) run from March 15 through November 15 each year, with all boats required off the premises by that date; renewal applications open November 1, and an unrenewed berth passes to the next applicant on the waiting list after November 30. Ramp permits under § 37-32(B)(2) run from March 1 through the last day of the following February. Section 37-36 requires the permit decal be affixed in a conspicuous place, and § 37-37 bars issuing any permit to anyone under 18.

Boats or trailers left in a marina without a displayed, valid permit may be removed by the Town at the owner's expense under §§ 37-29(B), 37-29(G) and 37-34, and the Commissioner of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs can revoke a permit under § 37-45 for Coast Guard or state violations, hazard to other boats, or unlawful use, after 10 days' mailed notice under § 37-46.
