Bossier Parish, LA Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

The Bossier Parish Police Jury regulates fence and wall height under the zoning article that governs the unincorporated area outside Bossier City, Haughton, Plain Dealing and Benton. Code of Ordinances § 126-863 limits any fence or wall, other than the wall of a permitted structure, to four feet in a front yard and seven feet in a side or rear yard. The limit applies regardless of zoning district and covers masonry and wood walls as well as wire and chain-link fencing, since the section does not exempt any material.

Front yard depth itself is set by § 126-856 at a minimum of 20 feet, or the average depth of adjacent building sites, so the four-foot cap runs the length of that required setback along the street. Corner building sites carry an added wrinkle: § 126-859 requires a side yard on the street side of a corner lot equal to the front yard depth required on the lot behind it, which can pull the shorter front-yard fence height around onto that side. Anyone planning an accessory structure near a fence should also note § 126-861, which bars accessory buildings from any part of a required front or side yard and caps their footprint in a required rear yard at 30 percent, a separate limit from the fence rule.

The Parish Engineer and Building Official issue permits for site work in the unincorporated area, and the Bossier City-Parish Metropolitan Planning Commission administers the zoning classifications the fence heights sit within.
