Bossier Parish, LA Noise Ordinances: Decibel Limits (2026)

Sec. 46-35 sets the parish's numeric noise ceiling, backed by Table 1, which lists maximum permissible A-weighted outdoor sound levels in dBA by receiving property type and time of day. and 40 dBA overnight; residential property and designated protected receivers get 50 dBA daytime and 45 dBA nighttime; and business and industry districts run flat at 60 dBA and 80 dBA around the clock. As an alternative test, subsection (a) also bars any source from exceeding the continuous background sound level by more than 7 dBA in daytime or 5 dBA at night, whichever standard is greater at the regulated receiver.

Table 2 allows short exceedances, up to 20 dBA over the limit for less than a minute, when a noise generator operates under an approved noise management plan. A temporary noise allowance under subsection (b) lets a one-day event run 15 dB over the limit, or a 14-day event run 10 dB over, but only once every 90 days and only if neighbors are told in advance. Subsections (c) through (e) add separate low-frequency, impulsive-noise and pure-tone limits. Compliance is measured under the procedures in section 46-37, and a noise control officer designated under section 46-32 enforces the article; the current version was rewritten by Ordinance No. 4916 on November 16, 2022 and last amended by Ordinance No. 5126 on July 15, 2026.
