Kenner, LA Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

The Unified Development Code caps residential back and side yard fences at a minimum of four feet and a maximum of six feet, with height measured from average ground level or street centerline elevation to the fence's highest point; any berm, chain, or retaining wall built into the fence line counts toward that six-foot ceiling. One segment of fence is allowed in each required side yard, running roughly parallel to the front lot line and tying the fence to the house, but no fence may stand in the required front yard except at public and private schools and churches approved for a conditional use permit by the City Council.

Separately, a corner-lot sight triangle rule bars any fence, structure, sign, or planting above three feet, measured from the crown of the street, inside the wedge formed by the side and front lot lines and a line connecting two points on the intersecting street centerlines ninety feet from the corner. The Department of Inspections and Code Enforcement administers both standards through the building permit process for fence construction; a fence built to six feet along a corner lot's front-adjacent zone without dropping to the three-foot sight-triangle cap is out of compliance even if it meets the general height range. Commercial uses next to residential districts face a separate six-foot (eight-foot in C-2) solid wood or masonry screening fence requirement under the same article.
