Kenner, LA Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Section 7.05 of the Kenner Unified Development Code requires off-street loading spaces for any use that distributes or receives materials or merchandise by truck, sized under Table VII-2. Commercial and institutional buildings need one space at 5,000 to 10,000 square feet of gross floor area (GFA), two spaces from 10,001 to 30,000 square feet, three spaces from 30,001 to 50,000 square feet, and one more for each additional 20,000 square feet above that. Industrial buildings follow the same first three tiers, then add one space per additional 40,000 square feet above 30,000.

Multi-family buildings need one space at 20,000 to 50,000 square feet, two from 50,001 to 100,000, and one more per additional 40,000 square feet. No structure, regardless of size, is required to carry more than five loading spaces, and a 25 percent floor-area increase triggers additional spaces under the same table. Structures fifty years old or more that were built without loading areas are exempt from Section 7.05, though any addition or enlargement to them requires at least one loading space. Section 7.08 sets the physical standards: each required space must be at least twelve feet wide, thirty-five feet long, and clear vertically at least fourteen feet, must sit on the same lot as the use it serves, and cannot sit in a required front yard or project into the public right-of-way.

Funeral home loading spaces may shrink to ten by twenty-five feet with eight feet of clearance. The Department of Inspections and Code Enforcement reviews site plans for compliance before issuing a permit.
