Ogden, UT Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Ogden City Code section 15-13-7(C) sets maximum fence heights citywide. No fence or similar structure in a required front yard of a dwelling may exceed four feet, and no fence in a side or rear yard may exceed seven feet, except a fence made solely of living plant material is exempt from the numeric cap. On corner lots in a residential zone, a fence in the side yard facing the street may reach six feet instead of four feet if it does not extend into the side yard area between the dwelling and the street and is confined to the side yard next to the rear yard, and if a clear view zone stays open where a driveway exists on the adjacent lot within ten feet of the shared property line; that clear view zone is the triangular area measured back ten feet from where the shared interior property line meets the right-of-way line.

Where a fence sits on a retaining wall or the ground elevation differs on each side, height is measured from a point halfway between the top of the retaining wall and the lower grade, or from the average of the two grades, but never so as to allow less than four feet measured from the higher side. Section 15-13-7(C)(4) also cross-references title 7, chapter 3, Obstructions At Intersections, so a fence cannot be built to a height that violates that separate visibility standard at street intersections.
