In Provo R1 zones, solid fences in front yards are limited to 3 feet. Side and rear yard fences may be up to 6 feet. Non-sight-obscuring (50%+ open) fences may be up to 6 feet in front yards. No permit required for fences 6 feet or less.
Under Provo City Code Β§14.10.150 (R1 zone): solid or sight-obscuring fences in front yards may be no taller than 3 feet. Non-sight-obscuring fences (at least 50% open) may be up to 6 feet in front yards and may slope upward to connect with a higher side yard fence. In side yards and rear yards, both solid and open fences may be up to 6 feet. Corner lot fences in a side yard adjacent to a public street may be up to 6 feet if they do not extend into the clear vision area (defined by Β§14.34.100). Fences may not create a sight distance hazard to traffic as determined by the city traffic engineer. Exceptions (e.g., tennis court backstops, patio enclosures) may be approved by the Zoning Administrator; other exceptions require Planning Commission approval.
Fences exceeding height limits require removal or variance approval. Building without required permit results in citation.
