South Fulton prohibits razor wire in residential and agricultural areas; barbed wire is allowed only in the AG-1 District for legitimate agriculture (never on single-family lots). Wire and plastic fencing may not be used adjoining a street right-of-way except in AG-1, M-1, and M-2.
South Fulton's Zoning Ordinance Sec. 406.02 imposes detailed material limits. Sec. 406.02(c)(1)a prohibits wire and plastic fencing materials — including chain-link with plastic or wooden inserts — adjoining a street right-of-way in all districts except AG-1, M-1, and M-2. Sec. 406.02(c)(3) (Barbed wire — Agricultural) allows barbed wire in the AG-1 District only when associated with a legitimate agricultural pursuit; it is expressly not allowed on any single-family dwelling lots (including such lots in AG-1), must be installed in straight strands (coiled/concertina prohibited) adjacent to the right-of-way, and razor wire is prohibited. Sec. 406.02(c)(4) allows barbed wire, razor wire, and chain link in all Commercial and Industrial Districts, where chain link must be green or black vinyl coated with a top rail, and barbed/razor wire adjacent to the right-of-way must be straight-strand (no concertina). Fabric is prohibited as a fence except as a recreational-court windscreen (Sec. 406.02(c)(5)). In large-scale retail (Sec. 407.03(c)), chain link is prohibited from public view (except along detention/retention ponds) and must be black vinyl clad. The architectural treatment of poured concrete or aggregate-block walls must be approved by the CDRA Director (Sec. 406.02(c)(1)b).
Prohibited materials (razor wire in residential, barbed wire on single-family lots, fabric fences) are zoning violations subject to removal orders and civil penalties from CDRA code enforcement.
