Yorba Linda prohibits barbed wire, razor wire, and electrified fencing in residential zones, and bans chainlink on any front or street-side yard setback, with narrow exceptions for sports courts and public parks.
Under YLMC 18.10.130, the use of barbed wire, electrified fence, or razor wire in conjunction with any fence, wall, or hedge, or by itself, within any residential zone is prohibited unless required by law or regulation of the City, the State of California, the federal government, or an agency thereof. In addition, chainlink is prohibited on any portion of a front or street-side yard setback, excluding chainlink fencing used in conjunction with a sports court or tennis court, or in any public park. These material restrictions apply alongside the height limits in the same section, so a compliant-height fence still may not use prohibited materials in the restricted locations.
Installing barbed wire, razor wire, electrified fencing, or front-yard chainlink in a residential zone is a code violation subject to removal and enforcement.
