Lyon County, NV Filming & Production: Location Permits (2026)

Lyon County Code section 14.06.06, the last section of the special events chapter in the County Parks title, bars any person from participating in motion picture filming or photography involving the performance of a professional cast in a county park without written permission from the director. The provision is narrow in scope: it is triggered specifically by a professional cast performance, distinguishing commercial or professional productions from casual photography or amateur video that does not involve a professional cast performing on county park land. It follows directly after section 14.06.05, which requires separate written director authorization to operate a concession, vending, or public address system, or to peddle goods or services, in a park, and both sections sit under the same permit-application framework established in sections 14.06.01 through 14.06.04 for special events, meaning a filming project that also amounts to a special event, drawing a crowd, closing park areas, or requiring security, would need to satisfy the broader special-event permit factors in section 14.06.02 as well as the filming-specific written permission in section 14.06.06.

As with other park permits, the director's written permission can be denied, and section 14.06.03's appeal path to the Board of County Commissioners within 30 days of a denial applies to the special-event framework generally, giving a production company a route to challenge a refusal. Because section 14.08.01 makes any violation of Title 14, or of a rule lawfully adopted by the director, a misdemeanor, filming a professional production in a county park without that written permission is a criminal offense, not merely a matter of being asked to stop.
