Anaheim Fire & Rescue enforces brush clearance in the Special Protection Area (Wildland-Urban Interface). The Life Safety Section coordinates weed abatement and reviews fuel modification plans. New landscaping must reduce fire-risk vegetation near structures.
Anaheim Fire & Rescue's Life Safety Section coordinates the Weed Abatement Program and brush clearance inspections for the city's Wildland-Urban Interface area designated as the Special Protection Area. Property owners in these areas must maintain defensible space by clearing combustible vegetation. New landscaping must select plants that reduce non-fire-resistant vegetation in proximity to structures and maintain vegetation as it matures per Anaheim Fire & Rescue's Brush Clearance and Vegetative Growth Guidelines. Fuel modification plans are reviewed by the Life Safety Section for new development in the WUI area. California Public Resources Code 4291 requires 100 feet of defensible space around structures in designated areas. Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) serves portions of the Anaheim Hills area for fire protection services.
Failure to maintain defensible space: abatement notice with deadline. City may clear vegetation and assess costs to property owner. State fines under PRC 4291.
