Garden Grove requires property owners to cut down and remove weeds, grass, vines, and other growth capable of being ignited. Burning is prohibited in Wildfire Risk Areas and Wildland-Urban Interface zones.
Under Garden Grove's adopted fire code provisions, weeds, grass, vines, and other growth capable of being ignited and endangering property must be cut down and removed by the property owner or occupant. The burning of wood and solid fuels is prohibited within a fuel modification zone, Wildfire Risk Area (WRA), Wildland-Urban Interface Area (WUI), or in locations where conditions could cause fire spread to these zones. The Orange County Fire Authority enforces vegetation management and brush clearance standards. Property owners who fail to maintain clearance may be subject to abatement proceedings where the city arranges for clearance and bills the owner.
Failure to maintain brush clearance may result in administrative fines, abatement proceedings where the city contracts for vegetation removal and charges the property owner, and potential misdemeanor charges for fire hazard creation.
