Bannock County, ID Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Bannock County Code Section 8.12.030 flatly prohibits dangerous fireworks: it is unlawful for any person in the county to sell, possess, keep or store, or permit the keeping or storing of any dangerous fireworks. The chapter's definitions section lists what counts as dangerous, including firecrackers, cherry bombs, skyrockets, Roman candles, and sparklers over ten inches or a quarter inch in diameter. Section 8.12.040(A) separately bars anyone without a valid safe and sane fireworks permit from importing, exporting, possessing for sale, offering for sale, or selling any fireworks for any purpose, including agricultural use or wildlife control, from making a public display of fireworks anywhere, or from transporting fireworks except as the State Fireworks Law and this chapter allow.

Retail sale of the permitted safe and sane category is further restricted by Section 8.12.070(C) to a fixed seasonal window, from twelve noon on June 15 to midnight on July 5 each year, and sales may only occur from a permitted temporary fireworks stand under Section 8.12.090, subject to setback, fire-extinguisher and supervision rules. Permits are issued by the Bannock County building inspector at no fee under Section 8.12.050, with the inspector empowered to investigate and grant or deny applications subject to appeal to the board of county commissioners.
