In Costa Mesa, safe and sane fireworks may be sold from June 30 through July 3 (10 AM to 10 PM) and July 4 (9 AM to 9 PM) at locations cleared by the Fire Department. Discharge of safe and sane fireworks is authorized July 2 through July 4 between 4 PM and 10 PM only. Only fireworks bearing the California State Fire Marshal seal are legal. All illegal fireworks including firecrackers, skyrockets, Roman candles, bottle rockets, and aerial devices are prohibited year-round. Costa Mesa enforces a zero-tolerance policy. Selling illegal fireworks is a felony. Possession or use of illegal fireworks is a misdemeanor punishable by up to $1,000 fine and/or jail time.
