Dearborn Heights, MI Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Dearborn Heights City Code § 20-305 makes it unlawful for anyone to ignite, discharge or use any firework within the city, and also bars a person outside the city from discharging fireworks whose debris or embers come to rest inside Dearborn Heights. The only exceptions are novelty items and uses expressly authorized by the state Fireworks Safety Act. Section 20-304(c) narrows when even that state-authorized window applies locally: consumer fireworks are permitted after 11:00 a.m. only from December 31 until 1:00 a.m. on January 1, the Saturday and Sunday before Memorial Day until 11:45 p.m., June 29 through July 4 until 11:45 p.m., July 5 until 11:45 p.m. if it falls on a Friday or Saturday, and the Saturday and Sunday before Labor Day until 11:45 p.m.

Outside those windows, discharging consumer fireworks anywhere in the city is a civil infraction. Section 20-305(c) sets the fine at $1,000.00 for each violation, and by state mandate the local law enforcement agency that enforces §§ 20-303 through 20-308 is remitted $500.00 of every fine collected. Section 20-306 layers on additional civil infractions: up to $500.00 for igniting fireworks on public, school, church or another person's property without permission; up to $1,000.00 for discharging fireworks while under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance; and up to $1,000.00, rising to $2,500.00 for a repeat offense, for selling consumer fireworks to a minor. The Dearborn Heights Police Department and fire department enforce these provisions.
