Dearborn Heights, MI Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Sec. 32-816 spells out which vehicles may use Dearborn Heights streets at all: automobiles, motorcycles, pickup trucks without attachments like a snowplow blade or tow bar and rated at no more than three-quarter-ton hauling capacity, and noncommercial passenger vans other than vehicles used for the handicapped. Everything else on the section's list, semi-trucks, buses, cube or van-style delivery trucks, stake trucks, wreckers, dump trucks, general commercial and construction equipment, vehicles carrying attachments such as plows, salters, spreaders, or winches, limousines, unlicensed racing vehicles and their transport trailers, and trailers generally, is expressly prohibited from being parked or stored on public streets or on residential property, not just on the street.

Other vehicles may make a brief loading, unloading, or emergency-repair stop for up to 48 hours. Even for the permitted categories, outside the driveway a residential lot may host no more than one automobile, motorcycle, or pickup truck at a time, and any parking or storage away from the driveway must sit on a cement pad, or blacktop or patio block for units under 2,000 pounds meeting the same pad dimensions from Sec. 32-805. Permitted vehicles kept on the lot cannot have fixed hookups to electricity, water, gas, or sewer, cannot be used for living or housekeeping, and cannot be jacked up on anything but jack stands, and then only in the side or rear yard for up to 48 hours for repairs.
