New Jersey law (N.J.S.A. 21:3-1 et seq.) prohibits the sale, possession, and use of consumer fireworks. A 2017 amendment (P.L. 2017, c.74) legalized only sparklers, handheld sparklers, and ground-based sparkling devices/fountains (up to 75 grams). All aerial fireworks, firecrackers, Roman candles, bottle rockets, and similar devices remain illegal. Professional displays require state permits from the NJ Division of Fire Safety. Irvington may impose additional restrictions on permitted devices.
