La Grange, MO Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Section 215.195 bans fireworks outright in the City of La Grange: no person shall in this City set off or discharge any rocket, fireworks or other pyrotechnic exhibition except upon consent of the City Council specifying the place and time the same may be done. The ordinance traces to Ord. No. 23, adopted June 15, 1906, and was amended by Ord. No. 423, Section 7, on January 13, 2003, the same 2003 ordinance that also added the City's open-burning restrictions in Section 215.196. Unlike many Missouri municipalities that route fireworks approval through a fire marshal or a permit fee schedule, La Grange places sole authority with the elected City Council, which must act before any display and must name both the place and the time.

There is no exception in the text for holidays such as the Fourth of July or New Year's Eve, no carve-out for licensed retailers, and no distinction drawn between consumer fireworks and larger pyrotechnic exhibitions; both fall under the same consent requirement. Because Section 215.195 does not set its own fine, the general penalty in Article III, Section 100.220, governs any discharge that lacks Council consent, and the Police Department enforces it under Chapter 200. A violation is a straightforward ordinance offense: fireworks set off without that prior authorization expose the person responsible to prosecution in the City's municipal division of the Circuit Court under Chapter 135.
