Lauderhill, FL Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Lauderhill's fireworks ordinance, City Code § 14-42, was enacted by Ord. No. 77-101 in 1977 and amended by Ord. No. 21O-07-124 in 2021. The section defines "fireworks" broadly to include firecrackers, torpedoes, sky rockets, Roman candles, cherry bombs and any other combustible or explosive device producing a visible or audible effect, while excluding sparklers, toy pistols and paper caps containing twenty-five hundredths of a grain or less of explosive compound. Subsection (b) makes it unlawful to offer, advertise, display or sell fireworks at retail, or to use or explode them, except under a permit allowed by Chapter 791 of the Florida Statutes.

Subsection (c) ties discharge directly to state law, providing that under F.S. § 791.08 fireworks "may only be discharged, used or displayed" on three designated holidays: January 1, July 4 and December 31; discharge on any other day subjects the person, firm or corporation to citation. The section carves out three exceptions: wholesale sales between wholesalers or to merchants operating entirely outside the city; a police department permit for a contractor's use of explosives in road or structure construction, with a copy forwarded to Lauderhill Fire Rescue; and discharge under a city-approved special events permit that allows fireworks on alternate dates.

Any violation is punishable by a fine not to exceed $500. Because the ordinance channels enforcement through the three-holiday window written into the city's own code rather than leaving the calendar to state law alone, a Lauderhill resident who sets off fireworks on, for example, the Fourth of July weekend but not on July 4 itself is still exposed to citation.
