Medford, OR Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Medford's fireworks ban runs on two tracks. 022 flatly prohibits retail fireworks sales anywhere in the city, and separately bans using or exploding any type of fireworks inside the Wildfire Hazard Zone, along the Bear Creek Greenway, in any city park, or on any public school property. 023(15) adds that manufacturing fireworks within the city is prohibited outright, storing or selling non-retail fireworks is unlawful except as otherwise provided, and careless or reckless use of fireworks anywhere in Medford is prohibited. 022. The only other lawful use is a permitted public display.

023(16) requires anyone staging a public fireworks display or stage pyrotechnics to first get a State of Oregon permit under OAR 837-012-0700 through 0970, then file a written application with the Medford Fire Department at least ten days before the display date; the resulting local permit is non-transferable and good only for that single event. 023(17) requires the applicant to post a $1,000,000 corporate surety bond or public liability insurance policy to cover any damage the display causes, though the Fire Chief can adjust that amount based on site conditions, and public agencies are exempt from the bond.
