Under HSC §12677, possession of dangerous fireworks without a permit is a misdemeanor. Under HSC §12689, use of any fireworks where prohibited by local ordinance is also a violation. OCFA actively patrols unincorporated canyon communities and foothill areas during the July 4th season due to extreme wildfire risk, particularly in Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones like Trabuco Canyon, Silverado Canyon, and Modjeska Canyon.
