Taylorsville, UT Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Section 5.14.160 of the Taylorsville City Code regulates fireworks as a temporary business activity. Selling fireworks in the city without first obtaining a city license is unlawful, and every applicant must carry public liability insurance of two hundred thousand dollars per person and four hundred thousand dollars per occurrence, two hundred thousand dollars in property damage coverage, and one million dollars in products liability coverage, naming the city as an additional insured. Applicants must also post a cash bond or irrevocable letter of credit per the consolidated fee schedule, forfeitable if the stand causes damage or is not removed and the site cleaned afterward.

Sale and possession are limited to devices approved by the Utah state fire marshal; a responsible adult at least eighteen years old must supervise every retail location, and sales to anyone under sixteen require an accompanying adult. Stands must stand at least twenty five feet from any building, structure, or other stand, and fifty feet from any gasoline pump or LPG dispenser, with weeds and combustible material cleared within twenty five feet. Stands under one hundred twenty square feet skip the uniform building code but must still be erected safely; stands at or above that size must meet full fire and building code requirements, including an on-site rated fire extinguisher.

Warning signs on discharge and smoking prohibitions must be posted on all four sides in letters at least three inches tall. Sales run only in the windows above; discharge itself is confined to three days before, on, and three days after July 4, July 24, January 1, and Chinese New Year, and fireworks may never be stored in a residence or attached garage. Ordinance 05-14 (2005) established the section; Ordinance 25-07 (June 4, 2025) most recently amended it.
