Vestavia Hills, AL Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Sec. class C consumer fireworks, aerial devices, audible ground devices, sparkling devices, roman candles, firecrackers, fire balloons, signal lights, railway track torpedoes, and 'novelties' such as party poppers, snappers, toy smoke devices, snakes, glow worms and wire sparklers, along with anything else that will detonate or explode. Sec. 6-18 makes it unlawful for any person, firm, partnership or corporation to sell, possess, use, keep, store, distribute or manufacture any of those items anywhere within the corporate limits, with no exception carved out for possession on private property or for use on the Fourth of July.

Sec. 6-19 is the only carve-out: the chief of the Vestavia Hills Police Department may, on application, issue a permit for a properly qualified operator to produce a pyrotechnic display in the city's public parks or other open places, which covers professionally supervised displays rather than consumer-grade fireworks use. Ordinance 3022, adopted July 12, 2021, replaced the entire article and post-dates the state's 2021 fireworks law, Alabama Legislative Act No. 2021-399 (codified at Code of Ala. 1975, § 8-17-210), which the city's definitions section cross-references directly. Sec. 6-20 sets the penalty and folds it into the state misdemeanor statute, with a separate offense for every day a violation continues.
