Outdoor burning rules in Boise, ID β also called the burn ban, open burning, or fire restriction ordinance β set when you can burn yard waste, debris, or run a recreational fire.
Open burning of yard debris is prohibited within Boise city limits. Idaho DEQ and Boise Fire Department enforce a year-round ban on burning leaves, grass, and trash. Only small recreational fires and approved agricultural burns outside the city are allowed with permits.
Boise is within the Treasure Valley airshed where Idaho DEQ restricts open burning under IDAPA 58.01.01. Burning of garbage, construction debris, tires, painted wood, and household waste is a misdemeanor. Burn permits for agricultural purposes are issued only in rural Ada County outside city limits and only May 1 through October 20 with prior notification. During Red Flag Warnings all outdoor burning including recreational fires is suspended.
First offense: $100-$300 civil citation. Repeat or prohibited-material burns: misdemeanor up to $1,000. Cost recovery for fire suppression if the fire escapes.
