Smyrna's outdoor burning ordinance (Chapter 50, Fire Prevention, Β§50-7) allows residential open burning only from October 1 through March 30. Permits allow clean wood only, from 9 AM until one hour before sunset. Prohibited: burning of leaves, wood larger than 6 inches in diameter, plastic, rubber, rubbish, or trash. Petroleum-based products (tires, plastics, shingles) are strictly banned. The Fire Marshal may ban burning at any time based on atmospheric conditions or neighboring health impacts.
