Burlington, WI Fire Regulations: Propane Storage (2026)

Section 155-50A of the Fire Prevention, Protection and Control chapter lists items that cannot be kept inside a multifamily dwelling except in a location the AHJ, generally the Fire Department, has approved: charcoal outside a metal container with a metal cover, oily rags or oily dust mops, flammable or combustible liquids other than new motor oil in original containers, bottle gases, propane, acetylene and oxygen, gasoline-powered equipment such as outboard motors and snow blowers, and dangerous accumulations of flammable rubbish or dust. Section 155-50B lets the AHJ additionally require elimination of hazards from defective or improperly installed equipment used to handle flammable or combustible material.

1J(1)(a), which carves out an exception for the residential LP tanks permitted under H(1)(j). Enforcement of Chapter 155 runs through the Fire Department: officers or inspectors charged with enforcement may issue citations under § 155-54, and fees for permits and inspections are set on the fee schedule kept in the City Clerk's office under § 155-53.
