Rothschild, WI Fire Regulations: Smoke Detectors (2026)

Article V of the Fire Prevention chapter, § 306-21, adopts a list of Wisconsin Administrative Code chapters into the Village Fire Prevention Code with the same force and effect as if fully set forth herein, including SPS 328, Smoke Detectors and Carbon Monoxide Detectors, alongside the state's Uniform Dwelling Code (SPS 320-325) and Commercial Building Code (SPS 361-366). Any future state amendment to SPS 328 becomes Village law automatically without a local ordinance change.

Section 306-44A adds Rothschild's own maintenance standard on top of the adopted state code: whether battery-operated or electrically interconnected, all smoke detectors must be tested at least once every six months, with written records of the test date, duration, location and tester kept on site and available to the Fire Inspector for at least seven years. If those records go missing or become more than a year out of date, and the detectors themselves turn out to be missing or inoperable, the Fire Inspector can order the owner to install or replace the whole system with new, electrically interconnected detectors tied into a fire alarm control panel, at the owner's expense. The same six-month testing and seven-year recordkeeping standard applies in parallel to manual pull-station fire alarms under § 306-44B.
