Stonecrest, GA Fire Regulations: Smoke Detectors (2026)

Stonecrest Code § 18-92(h), part of the City's hotel, motel and extended-stay hotel regulations in chapter 18, requires each new and existing guest room to carry a hard-wired smoke detector or smoke alarm with tamper-resistant housing, powered by a non-replaceable, non-removable energy source rated to run the alarm for a minimum of ten years from its manufacture date. Owners had to have the devices installed and approved by the Fire Marshal within 180 days of July 1, 2018, the effective date of the ordinance. The same subsection sits alongside § 18-92(g), which phases in NFPA 101 (2012 edition) sprinkler compliance for guest rooms existing as of July 1, 2018, giving the Director of the Community Development Department authority to grant up to a two-year extension on submitted sprinkler plans, with an affidavit due to the Fire Marshal within 60 days of the three-year deadline.

In the City of Stonecrest, code compliance staff and the Fire Marshal jointly inspect lodging properties, and § 18-98 gives City employees and designees authority to inspect establishments governed by this article during business hours to verify compliance with the Code and state law. Article IX of chapter 18 covers hotels, motels and extended-stay hotels broadly, and § 18-97 sets the enforcement schedule for the whole article: a minimum $250.00 fine for a first conviction in a calendar year, rising to $500.00, $750.00 and $1,000.00 minimums for a second, third and fourth conviction within 12 months of the first, with each day a violation continues charged as a separate offense.
