8, governs residential fire sprinkler design and installation and folds in the dwelling's smoke alarm system as part of that design. It requires that automatic fire sprinkler systems for residential occupancies be installed to the applicable NFPA standard referenced in Chapter 80 of the CFC, plus local amendments, and it specifically mandates that the interconnected smoke alarms already required in the dwelling be electrically connected to the fire sprinkler flow switch, so a sprinkler activation also triggers the alarm circuit. The same section requires an approved exterior horn and flashing signal light positioned to be plainly visible from the road fronting the property; the light must be blue or white, flash at a minimum of 80 times per minute, and be rated at a minimum of 25,000-candle power, and it must be wired to activate automatically whenever the sprinkler system activates. 3 requires NFPA 13D attic sprinkler piping to be protected against freezing. These sections were adopted city-wide under Ordinance 2006, effective November 19, 2025.
