Pocatello, ID Fire Regulations: Wildfire Zones (2026)

The City of Pocatello adopted the 2018 edition of the International Wildland-Urban Interface Code by ordinance at City Code § 15.02.010, together with Appendix A, General Requirements, and Appendix B, Vegetation Management Plan. Amended Section 103.1 names the Pocatello Fire Department, through the official in charge or a designee, as the fire code official responsible for administering the chapter. That official uses amended Section 302.1 to declare which parts of the city sit within the wildland-urban interface, basing each declaration on findings of fact and drawing the boundary along natural or man-made features rather than a fixed citywide line.

Property inside a declared area faces added review: amended Section 108.3 requires site plans showing topography, access-road grade and width, vegetation and landscape detail, building envelope locations, overhead utilities, occupancy classification, ignition-resistant construction type and roof classification, and water supply, though the code official can waive or modify that requirement for alteration, repair, or other warranted work. Amended Section 110.4.7 backs the whole chapter with a misdemeanor penalty: violating the code, working without an approved permit, or ignoring a code official's directive is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000, up to six months in the county jail, or both, and each day a violation continues after notice counts as a separate offense. Conflicts between the Fire Code and NFPA standards adopted in the same section are resolved by the Fire Chief under § 15.02.020.
