Portions of the city adjacent to open space, the Oquirrh foothills, and undeveloped parcels are mapped as WUI areas with moderate to high fire hazard ratings. New construction in these areas must use Class A or B roofing, ignition-resistant siding or 1-hour rated exterior walls, ember-resistant vents, and maintain defensible space. The Fire Chief can issue seasonal restrictions on fireworks, open flame, and smoking in these zones during high fire danger.
