Old Bridge, NJ Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Food Truck Permits (2026)

Old Bridge tightly controls mobile food vending through Chapter 273. Section 273-2A makes it unlawful to operate a food truck without a license first obtained from the Township Clerk, and caps the entire program at a maximum of seven annual licenses issued each year, a hard ceiling that makes the license a scarce, competitive slot rather than a routine registration. A license runs for up to one year and can be renewed only after the Township reviews how the truck has operated, including an inspection of the private property where it parks for maintenance issues, and confirms the operator has complied with every condition in the chapter.

The license fee is $250 per calendar year or any part of a year, per § 273-3, due before the Township Clerk issues the license. Section 273-4 then layers on operating conditions: a food truck must have prior sign-off from the Health and Welfare Department, Police Department, Construction Official and Zoning Officer before a license issues; it cannot operate in any residential zoning district; it can run only during daylight hours from sunrise to 9:00 p.m.; and it must carry a minimum $100,000 liability and $100,000 automobile insurance certificate filed with the Township Clerk.

Frozen dessert trucks, unlike food trucks, are instead licensed as peddlers under Chapter 347. Section 273-6 puts enforcement in the hands of the Construction Official, Zoning Officer and Police Department, and § 273-7 routes violations to the Township's general Chapter 1 penalty.
