Old Bridge, NJ Parking Rules: EV Charging (2026)

Article III of Chapter 325, adopted by Ordinance No. 2022-23, governs Township-owned electric vehicle supply/service equipment (EVSE) parking spaces. Section 325-8 makes it unlawful for any vehicle, electric or not, to occupy a designated EVSE space unless it is an electric vehicle actually connected for charging, limits each space to one electric vehicle at a time, and requires drivers to stay within the marked boundaries. The same section bars nonelectric vehicles from EVSE spaces outright and caps charging time at four hours, after which the vehicle must be removed even if the driver wants to keep it there.

Section 325-9 limits how much of the Township's parking supply can go to EV charging: no more than 10% of the total spaces at any Township-owned parking facility, lot or area. Section 325-10 sets the fee band for using a charging space, from $1.50 to $50 per hour, and fixes the opening rate the Council adopted at $2 per hour for the first two hours and $5 an hour after that, up to the four-hour cap; the Council can change that rate later by resolution without a new ordinance.

Enforcement falls to the Zoning Officer and the Police Department under § 325-11, and § 325-12 sends violations to the Township's general penalty in Chapter 1, Article II: a fine of up to $1,250, up to 90 days of imprisonment or community service, or a combination, with each day of a continuing violation a separate offense.
