Old Bridge, NJ Noise Ordinances: Construction Hours (2026)

Section 300-4C of the Old Bridge Township Noise Code sets the Township's construction-hours rule. Construction and demolition activity, defined at § 300-1 to include site preparation, assembly, erection, repair, alteration or demolition of buildings or structures, cannot be performed between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. on any day Monday through Saturday, leaving a 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. window. Sundays and federal holidays are off-limits entirely unless the Township's Business Administrator grants prior approval. The subsection exempts 'emergency work,' defined at § 300-1 as work necessary to deliver essential public services, such as repairing water, gas, electric, telephone or sewer lines, removing fallen trees from public rights-of-way, dredging navigable waterways, or abating life-threatening conditions.

All motorized equipment used in construction and demolition must also be run with a muffler, the sound-dissipative device defined at § 300-1. Chapter 300, adopted by Ordinance No. 2010-05, applies construction noise rules to residential, commercial, industrial, and public-space projects alike under § 300-2A, and the Old Bridge Township Police enforce the chapter under § 300-3A, including reviewing public and private construction projects for compliance and referring measurement disputes to the Middlesex County Health Department under § 300-3B(3) and (6). A violation defaults to the Code's general penalty at § 1-3: a fine up to $1,250, up to 90 days of imprisonment or community service, or a combination, with each day of continued construction noise chargeable as a separate offense under § 1-4.
