Old Bridge, NJ Parking Rules: Preferential Parking Districts (2026)

Article II of Chapter 325 was adopted under N.J.S.A. 40:48-2.46, the state law letting municipalities regulate parking on private property open to the public, and § 325-5 explains it is enacted 'in order to preserve and safeguard the public health, safety, morals and welfare.' Section 325-6 lets the Township Council designate specific lots as Old Bridge resident commuter permit parking areas, restricting parking there, in whole or in part, to vehicles carrying a valid permit between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on weekdays, holidays excepted.

Once the Council approves a designation, the Township Clerk issues the permits and the Police Department posts signs stating the times, locations and conditions, warning that violators face both a penalty and towing at the owner's expense. Any unoccupied vehicle parked in violation is treated as a nuisance that a police officer can have towed, provided the officer witnesses the removal and logs the towing company and storage location. The Township's first designated zone under this article is the 40-space area at the northeast corner of the A&P Parking Lot at Route 9 South and Ferry Road, Middlesex County, as shown on the site plan filed with the article.

Violations there, and in any future area designated under Article II, are punished under the Township's general penalty in Chapter 1, Article II. Separately, Chapter 331 governs the paperwork applicants use to prove New Jersey residency and obtain the resident or nonresident sticker itself.
