Old Bridge, NJ Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Section 10-8.1 states plainly that Old Bridge's own time limits on parking never replace the more restrictive stopping, standing and parking rules already set by New Jersey in N.J.S.A. 39:4-138 or any other state statute: the local ordinance layers on top of state law rather than substituting for it. Where Old Bridge does legislate directly, it does so street by street. Section 10-8.2 lets the Chief of Police post emergency no-parking signs and clear a street during a declared weather or public-safety emergency. Section 10-8.4 bars stopping or standing during specified hours on named blocks, and Section 10-8.7 goes further, banning parking at any time, any day, on a long list of streets and street segments, from Bushnell Road between Stevens Avenue and Old Bridge-Matawan Road (CR No.

516) to the entire lengths of Poor Farm Road, Cheesequake Road and Ehlers Lane. Section 10-8.9 layers a residential parking-permit system on top of that list, restricting dozens of named streets, such as Adelphi Court and Bushnell Road between Throckmorton Lane and Rittner Lane, to permit holders on weekdays. A vehicle left in violation of Chapter 10 is treated as a public nuisance under Section 10-3: any police officer may have it towed, and the owner must pay the towing and storage costs before getting it back.

Section 10-4 sets the base penalty for any Chapter 10 violation, including illegal on-street parking, at a fine of not more than $50, up to 15 days in jail, or both, unless a specific state statute sets a different penalty. The Old Bridge Police Department, through the parking enforcement officer position created in Section 5-219, issues the tickets and can order vehicles towed under N.J.S.A. 40A:9-154.7.
